Ulyana sergeenko who is she

Tanja Beljanski: How did you start journey into the fashion world? Back in times in the Soviet Union it was hard to find fancy dresses, so everyone had to be very creative. My grandmothers were sewing incredible dresses for themselves.

Recently I have found a video from my school Prom where the principle prophesied my career as a fashion designer, because I always invented something, sewed, tailored and refined my looks. There was no other way. Some years after I used to order garments according to my sketches in different ateliers. That is how my first collection appeared.

At that time I had no idea that we would ever become a couture house. After the debut in Moscow, we moved to Paris and soon, we grew up from the experimental workshop to the rank of serious production.

This how my fashion journey started. US: The women who surround me, old movies or favorite books, vintage toys, memories from childhood and traveling. US: It is really hard to choose. US: I started working with Russian heritage, but I also love to lead parallels between our culture and others. And this was one of my biggest discovery we have so much in common with European, Asian, Arabic, African cultures.

It surprised me a lot because I see clearly that I found magical and unlimited source of inspiration in these connections. The best example is the symbol of Ulyana Sergeenko — the ruby-red rocking horse. It comes as a good memory from childhood. US: The members of my team and me are constantly making research of new techniques and textiles.

Several times per year my team visits specialized professional expositions in France and we travel around Russia, visiting some small towns known for its craftsmanships.

TB: Which traditional techniques do you love to use in your designs? US: Hand-knitted Vologda and Yelets lace are our very famous traditional techniques, Krestetskaya stitching and others.

I meet with the design team, we are making fittings, discussing the mood boards, looking for the perfect solutions for our most crazy ideas. TB: Is there a historical figure you most identify with? US: I think it was my first show in Moscow, when it all began. TB: What do you think is the single most important change that needs to happen for women in the next 10 years?

For the 10th anniversary collection, the first Ukrainian silent film star Vera Kholodnaya from the s was her key inspiration. The heroines of her brand are ever changing, from a diva to a free-spirited Cossack from the Don. Russian fashion designer Ulyana Sergeenko always offers feminine and glamourous haute couture looks. Ulyana Sergeenko has also developed a Demi-Couture collection and an Accessories line.

The demi couture offers everyday looks. In the wardrobe this season: leather jacket, mini dress with a kitten print, georgette dress, high waisted jeans, all the pieces are made entirely from natural fabrics at their highest level at the atelier de couture.

The accessories line like the first bag Ulya created in and the Natalia leather bag, launched this summer, are in limited editions and produced in an Italian family workshop. The aim is always to preserve the quality and the Russian craftsmanship traditions throughout the years.

I try to wear the designers' clothes to their shows, as it is a matter of politesse. That's one of the reasons I have to change for every show. For the Rodarte show I was playing with the idea of a '60s housewife outfit.

My friends Frol and German Larkin both wore big hats, and we looked very gangster-like. The Rodarte show begins. I don't make notes, as I see the pieces that could suit me immediately; I have a short memory for everything but clothes. Outside the shows, I am often photographed. It could be hundreds of pictures a day, but I don't really think the camera loves me, so I'm rarely satisfied.

That's why I look so stiff and uptight in many pictures, because I feel a bit uncomfortable. I'm actually quite a shy person. Back to the Greenwich Hotel for a quick change. Usually it's chaotic; I'm often late and somehow manage to forget something.

It could be the right shade of lipstick or a little kerchief or a brooch. I run over to the Naeem Khan show. It's really hectic and hard to find time for lunch—I just went to Shake Shack and had a burger, a hot dog, fries, and a vanilla shake.

I get changed for Oscar de la Renta into an outfit by Thom Browne, who lent it to me after I saw it at his show. Off to de la Renta. To get in a good mood, I always call my children, Alexander [12] and Vasilisa [7], in the evening, and try to go to bed before midnight.
