Kawana Shopping Centre and business centre is only 3 mins drive to Kawana ocean beach and is backed up by man made canals. South of the township on the canals a new Olympic standard rowing course has been built and it is expected there will be international events here on a regular basis. Kawana tends to be a high residential rental area, but also has multi million dollar homes along the river frontage and along the canals.

The building of the canals behind Kawana have formed an island which is known as Kawana Island.
