The meat, however, could be a little moister. Formally situated at Canteen 1, this Xiao Long Bao stall in Canteen 2 now is perpetually plagued by long queues. Not only are they cheaper than most places selling xiao long baos , these dumplings are like little flavour bombs.
Break the skin and slurp down its light and savoury broth, before popping the whole dumpling into your mouth. Now, this Ayam Penyet stall is a real show-stopper. The huge chicken thigh made me want to just grip onto it and rip a chunk of meat off like a savage. The chicken skin was crispy and had a nice blend of spices. Although the meat was well-marinated, it was still a little dry. I do have to warn you: the chilli was incredibly potent.
The toasty waffle with three hearty ice cream scoops was more than enough to sate my sweet tooth. The size of it is pretty monstrous, so I recommend ditching the spoon. You should tackle the waffles like a champion, one bite at a time. The waffle was pleasantly chunky and thick enough that it still retained its crispiness, even when the ice cream started melting.
Right beside the Ayam Penyet s tall, this contender sells chicken in a different form. The chunky slices of chicken were nicely steamed and tender. Paired with the sweet sauce that was so generously poured over the entire dish, this might be a good enough reason for me to go back to school.

Honestly, I prefer the waffle here to the one at Canteen 2. I like that it is more fragrant, and slightly more crispy. Unlike other stores, the owner does not ask for your preferred level of spice. The default one is not too spicy and was manageable for my dining partner and me. The enormous portion serves 2 comfortably. Diners can look forward to Japanese tonkatsu ramen and even cha shu donburi bowls!
A few cubes of potato and carrot slices were thrown in the mix as well. We liked that the pork meat was lean, yet juicy, and much preferred it to the chicken version. Their unique hot grill items are still as popular! The chicken was drenched with black pepper sauce, and topped with a generous portion of onions.
Prefer other meats? You can find beef, pork, and lamb, as well. The silky smooth banmian noodles, which are made in-house, have a nice bite. We love how the splash of sweet black sauce binds together with the oozy runny egg and coats each strand of noodle perfectly. The rice is drizzled with braised sauce.
Do ask for more to prevent it from being too dry!
